What is Amblyopia or Lazy Eye?
Amblyopia is decreased vision that occurs in childhood. Many people refer to it as lazy eye. There are several etiologies for developing amblyopia:
Refractive Amblyopia or Lazy Eye
In children that have a significant difference in the refractive error between the two eyes, one eye will be blurred compared to the other eye without wearing corrective lenses. The vision center in the brain never receives a clear from one of the eyes and the brain does not develop clear vision in that eye. It is usually the more farsighted eye that becomes amblyopic or lazy in most cases.
Strabismus or Crossed Eyes Amblyopia or Lazy Eye
If a child has crossed eyes, they will see double. In children under age six or so the brain still developing vision. The child’s brain is able to turn of the vision in the crossed eye so that they do not see double. The result is poor vision or amblyopia in one eye.
Deprivation Amblyopia or Lazy Eye
If an eye disease or condition prevents the eye from seeing clearly in early childhood, the brain never develops good vision and the eye becomes amblyopic.
Timeline for Reversing Amblyopia or Lazy Eye
The vision center in the brain develops its vision by age six or seven. The typical treatment for amblyopia needs to be done before age six. A new form of treatment for amblyopia has been developed for people older than age nine.
Revital Vision™ Can Train your Brain to See Better
Amblyopia can now be improved by enhancing brain processing. Revital Vision is the only FDA approved treatment for amblyopia.
How Does Revital Vision Work?
The brain training sessions are designed so that the patient sits in front of a computer and is presented with a series of precise visual tasks. These visual tasks consist of patterned images with subtle differences in contrast, orientation, and size. These images are called Gabor Patches. Through repetitive training, the brain becomes more efficient and the vision improves. Specialized Revital Vision algorithms analyze performance and continually adjust the training sessions to maximize the results.
Revital Vision Treatment Program
Amblyopia is completed at home on a computer
Sessions are 2-3 times a week
Sessions are customized to your pace and progress
Sessions are 40 per treatment
Sessions last approximately 40 minutes
Benefits of Revital Vision Treatment for Amblyopia
The average improvement is more than 2.5 lines on the eye chart and at least a 100% increase in contrast sensitivity.
Increased contrast sensitivity improves your ability to see objects that blend together in the background of your vision. This is like the ability to see a darker or lighter grey image compared to an adjacent image that is very slightly lighter or darker. This is a more complex method of measuring a person’s vision.
Improved vision for TV, reading, or driving is made possible.
Improved ability to see in dim or low lighting conditions has been reported.
Patients report reduced halos, starburst, and glare at night.
Safety of Revital Vision Treatment
No known risks, side effects, or complications
The sessions are done at home on a computer
Thousands of people and clinical trial participants have completed the program
Qualifications for Revital Vision Treatment
Over age 9
Best corrected vision between 20/30 and 20/100
Minor strabismus of 8 diopters or less
Amblyopia or lazy eye is not really a lazy eye but a lazy brain. The brain has not developed normal vision for a particular secondary to the causes mentioned above. Revital Vision is the only FDA approved treatment program for treating amblyopia or lazy eye.
