What are Blink® Tears?
Blink® Tears is a family of lubricating eye drops used for the treatment of dry eye syndrome. The products are designed to treat mild to severe forms of dry eyes.
What is Dry Eye Syndrome?
Dry eye syndrome is an ocular surface disease in which one or more of the layers of the normal tear film are reduced or missing. When the tear film is compromised several common symptoms occur. Dry eye syndrome can cause redness, sandy feeling, itching, grittiness, burning, foreign body sensation, tearing, light sensitivity, blurred vision, and dry feeling in the eyes.
How do Blink® Tears Work?

Blink Component Functions
Demulcent: Functions to form a soothing protective layer over the mucous membrane to lubricate the surface
Viscosity Enhancer: Increases the thickness of the solution
Osmolyte: Functions to modulate the water and salt distribution through cells
Buffer: Ensures that the pH remains stabilized within the physiologic range
Electrolytes: Ensure salt balance within cells to regulate hydration
Preservative: Inhibits microbial or bacterial growth due to potential contamination that may occur with use of multi-dose containers
Blink Family of Products
This comes in a larger bottle that may be used for a period of time and is the most commonly used.
This comes in a package containing 25 single use eye drop vials. This is for patients who are
sensitive to the preservatives that are found in regular size eye drop bottles.
Blink Gel Tears® Formula
This is a thicker more viscous formula that lasts in the eye for longer period of time but may
cause blurred vision in some patients for a short period of time.
Blink Contacts® Formula
This is used for patients wearing soft and RGP contact lenses. It moisturizes the eyes with

Which lubricate is right for a patient depends on the severity and what portion of the tear film
is reduced. Typically, the more severe the dry eye syndrome requires thicker or more viscous

Blink® Tears is indicted for the temporary relief of the symptoms associated with dry eye
Dosage for Blink® Tears
Blink® Tears can be used several times per day and you should follow the instructions given by
your eye doctor.
Patients should stop using it if they experience eye pain, change in vision, continued redness or
irritation of the eye, or if the condition worsens or persists for more than 72 hours unless
instructed by an eye doctor.
